Donald R. Baldocchi is owner and President of Pacific Nurseries, a wholesale supplier of plant materials to the trade throughout the Bay Area and the oldest continuously operating nursery in California, since 1869. Baldocchi is also CEO and Vice President of Livestock Management for Gabilan Cattle Company, a family owned and managed ranch that has been a cattle operation since the land was settled early in California’s history. Gabilan Ranch is managed holistically, using practices developed through Holistic Resource Management that mimic the natural tendencies of wild herding animals and work to ensure the health of the grasslands. The property has been preserved in perpetuity with The Nature Conservancy as open space.

Baldocchi’s education is in horticulture; he received his undergraduate degree from University of California, Davis and did continuing education in Landscape Technologies at UC Extension. He began his career in landscape contracting, operating a design build firm for nearly 20 years before taking over operations at Pacific Nurseries. He is a member of the California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers and of the California Landscape Contractors Association, and also serves on the board of the Pacific Horticulture Society. A San Francisco native, Baldocchi explored the Garden from youth to career and is proud to serve on the board of an institution that has meant so much to him personally. Baldocchi joined the SFBGS Board in 2006 and has served as Chair since 2011.
