In 2022, Stephanie Linder became the Chief Executive Officer of the Gardens of Golden Gate Park after leading the merger of the Conservatory of Flowers, Japanese Tea Garden, and San Francisco Botanical Garden where she had previously served as the Executive Director of the non-profit partner organization. This expanded and innovative public-private partnership with San Francisco Recreation & Parks is now among the top ten most visited public gardens in the United States.
Stephanie has been both a national and local park advocate for much of her career, with more than 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector including leadership and advancement roles at conservation and park organizations.
In 2018, Stephanie returned to San Francisco from Santa Barbara Botanic Garden which is dedicated to research, education, and conservation of California native plants, and where she was Director of Development and Communications overseeing philanthropic relationships, membership, marketing, communications, and events. She has also served as Advancement Director at the national office of the Sierra Club and Director of Board Affairs at the Trust for Public Land.
Before joining the parks and conservation field, Stephanie ran a national initiative on volunteerism for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and worked to prevent domestic violence. She is an alumna and former Board Chair of Emerge California, a candidate training program for women seeking elected office.
Stephanie holds a Master of Arts in American History from Binghamton University in New York. For many years, she has called San Francisco’s Inner Sunset District home and enjoys the walk to work at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park. She also spends a lot of time in Sonoma County where she serves on the Board of Jack London Park Partners.
