About the UC Master Gardeners

The UC Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a public service and outreach program under the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources department, administered locally by participating UC Cooperative Extension County offices. Our mission is to extend research-based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management and sustainable landscape practices to county residents by teaching workshops, hosting plant clinics, managing impactful projects, running demonstration gardens, and answering individual questions received via our Helpline.

Royal Jenkins
Royal Jenkins has spent the past decade guided by his fascination with plants and data. Much of his experience is rooted in nurseries, botanic gardens, and arboreta across Southern California, and now he’s embracing the unique habitats of the Bay Area. As a plant records assistant for GGGP, he’s committed to aiding plants in telling their stories through data. Outside of work, Royal enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring the outdoors, eager to learn and discover new experiences.
Rebecca Flato
Rebecca Flato is a San Francisco-based design director with a focus on native plant design, restoration, and ecological landscape rehabilitation. Passionate about fostering harmonious coexistence between people and the environment, Rebecca specializes in creating planting systems that highlight the ecological value and beauty of native plants. She believes that native plants are far from mere “weeds” or afterthoughts; when placed thoughtfully, they reveal the inherent brilliance and resilience of California’s natural landscapes. Through her design expertise, Rebecca brings these landscapes to life, showcasing how native plants can transform and enrich our surroundings. She became a UC Master Gardener in 2024.
