We are very excited Flower Piano is set to return for it’s 10th anniversary in the Botanical Garden for 10 days, spanning two weekends—September 12-21, with a Special Opening Night Event on September 12.

In the final days of summer and for the tenth time since 2015, Flower Piano will fill San Francisco Botanical Garden with music for everybody. Seek out 12 pianos and discover more than 100 performances, family-friendly activities, our second annual Flower Piano Fashion Show, food, beverages, and more.

Kick off the festivities with us at our Special 10th Anniversary Opening Night Event, featuring Montuno Swing Salsa Band with Grammy Award-Winning Pianist Christian Tumalan.

Want to skip the planning? We’ve got you covered! Celebrate Flower Piano with ease in the Flower Piano Lounge. Lounge tickets now include all day priority entry to the festival, special performances from local headliners, access to premium bars, food from local makers, lounge seating, dedicated restrooms, and flexibility to relax and enjoy all areas of the festival at will. Know Before You Go

I’m a member, do I need to reserve tickets in advance?

  • Reserving a ticket in advance is helpful so we know you are coming, and we can send event specific information to you via email, but advanced member tickets are not required. Members enjoy expedited entry at the Main Gate! Enter on the southside of the Main Gate entrance close to the Library and please have your membership card ready.

I’m a San Francisco resident, do I need to reserve a ticket in advance? Will it get me in faster? How do I prove I live in San Francisco? Is there a dedicated line for residents?

  • Reserving a ticket in advance is helpful so we know you are coming, we can send event specific information to you via email, and it will make your check in process slightly quicker, but advanced resident tickets are not required.
  • Residents must provide proof of San Francisco residency when entering the garden. A current ID or Driver License showing a  San Francisco address or a current utility bill or lease/rental agreement showing name and San Francisco address with valid photo ID.

I’m a Veteran, do I need to reserve a ticket in advance? Is there a dedicated line for veterans?

  • Veterans must provide proof of verification when entering the garden.

Transportation & Parking

  • Walking, biking, public transit, taxi or rideshare are strongly recommended
  • San Francisco Muni serves the Botanical Garden via a number of convenient bus and metro lines, including the 5, 7, 43, 44, and N-Judah
  • Complimentary Bike Valet will be provided on the weekends from 10am-6pm at the Main Gate (1199 9th Avenue) and additional bike racks are available by both entrances to the Botanical Garden
  • Garage Parking is available in the Music Concourse Garage, which may be accessed from Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. across from the Botanical Garden
  • Street Parking is free but limited on nearby streets of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Nancy Pelosi Drive, and Bowling Green Drive
  • Rideshare drop-offs should be at 1199 9th Avenue
  • Accessible park spaces are available along  Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Nancy Pelosi Drive, and Bowling Green Drive. There are also accessible parking spots in the Bandshell All-Accessible Lot across the street from the Botanical Garden.

  • Members and Lounge pass holders can enjoy expedited entry at the Main Gate via the Member & Lounge line—enter on the Library (south) side of the Entry Garden—thank you for your support!
  • Please be prepared to show your member card or Lounge pass upon entry
  • Members, don’t worry if you can’t find your card! We can look you up in our system and issue you a temporary card at check in

There will also be large scale program signage available throughout the Garden  during Flower Piano that illustrate all piano locations and performance times. Snap a photo on your phone for easy access to the information you need!

Google and Apple Maps work in the Botanical Garden if you need assistance. Staff and Volunteers with green name badges can assist with wayfinding, too!

The pianos are available for open play from 10am-6pm daily and when not hosting a scheduled performance. Everybody is welcome to play the pianos on a first-come, first-served basis. Please limit your playing time to 15 minutes if others are waiting.

  • Layers, layers, layers—be prepared with clothes for all weather!
  • Sun protection—even in the fog, you can get burned—hats, sunblock, sunglasses all encouraged
  • Stay hydrated—water bottle refill stations are available at restrooms and Fountain Plaza
  • Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes—the Garden is 55 acres and pianos are spread throughout across various surfaces
  • We will share programming, and other dynamic updates as best as possible on our social media channels
