Award-winning Restoration of Japanese Tea Garden’s Pagoda

In September 2022, restoration of the 107-year-old pagoda was completed.

Congratulations to the Japanese Tea Garden team on winning the California Preservation Foundation’s 2023 Preservation Design Award for Craftsmanship/Preservation Technology!

The pagoda in the Japanese Tea Garden was originally built as a temporary display inside the Palace of Food Products at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition of 1915. Dry rot, insects, rodents, and time had taken a toll on the structure.
