Conservatory of Flowers
All ages are welcome to join us; content is most appropriate for 10 years and up
About the Program
Carnivores, corpse plants, and poisons, oh my! Step inside the Conservatory for a special night to explore some wickedly wonderful, boo-tiful boo-tanicals. Costumes and boo-tanically themed clothes are welcome if you feel so inspired, but please no weapons or full-face masks.
During this event, enjoy all the galleries that the Conservatory has to offer, plus these exciting activities:
- Rub elbows with the Bay Area Carnivorous Plant Society. Get an up-close look at these incredible plants and learn how to help your own carnivorous plants thrive.
- Drop in on some collections highlights! Did you know that plants in the Conservatory are constantly changing? We rotate specimens into the exhibits from greenhouses. During this event we will highlight plants with a bit of wickedness – think poisons, deceitful flowers, and plants that can cut you.
- Experience the Photosynthesis Light Show: starting at 7:30pm and lasting through the night, psychedelic music and visuals will be projected onto the outside of the building, and you can see what it looks like from inside the Conservatory (spoiler alert – its super cool!).
Additionally, you can add on these special experiences for $5 each:
- 6:30pm – Attend a special talk on the Conservation of Carnivorous Plants with Barry Rice: A real treat for this evening is Professor Barry Rice. This botanist, astronomer, invasive species specialist, and aspiring Star Fleet captain, will join us to share about his work supporting carnivorous plant conservation and much more. This talk will take place in the Orchid Pavilion.
- 8:00pm – Participate in Wicked Plant Trivia. Come with a team or join one when you get here. Put your brains together to try to outsmart the other teams and win prizes. This activity will take place in the Orchid Pavilion. Trivia teams may be 6 members or less.
