About the Program

Jazz trumpeter Dave Rocha will appear in concert with his trio at the Botanical Garden to celebrate Jazz Amongst the Magnolias! Rocha has been playing professionally most of his adult life. He worked for many years in the New York jazz scene, performing with the legendary bands of Lionel Hampton, Larry Elgart, and Machito, as well as leading his own jazz combo in numerous club engagements.

In addition to playing the trumpet, Rocha will also perform with the flugelhorn, a cousin to the trumpet that has a deep and mellow tone.  Selections for the concert will include compositions by Freddie Hubbard, Alan Onaje Gumbs, Ornette Coleman, Jackie McClean, McCoy Tyner, and others . With Dave will be electric guitarist Luke Schwartz and acoustic bassist Heath Proskin, both highly skilled and in-demand musicians in the local jazz scene. Treat yourself to some amazing jazz music in addition to viewing the Garden’s famed Magnolias!
