UC Master Gardener Talk: How to Grow Herbs, Edible Flowers, and Attract Bees!

April 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Free

This is a free community program. Please consider supporting the Gardens of Golden Gate Park with a recommended donation of $5-20. Your support helps us connect people to plants, the planet, and each other.

Saturday, April 11, 2026
11am-12pm
San Francisco County Fair Building Courtyard

About the Program

In this class, we will discuss many different kinds of herbs and edible flowers — exploring how to grow, propagate, and use them in cooking. In addition, since many of these plants can be beneficial for bees, we’ll cover the basic habitat requirements of bees and how the herbs we grow can support them. Herbs and edible flowers can be grown in containers, raised beds, and in the ground — and most are easy to grow!

About the Speakers

Karen Flores is an avid gardener and loves growing roses, edibles of all types, and unique plants and flowers to use in flower arranging. She has gardened all of her life and two of her passions are flower arranging and growing vegetables in containers. Karen became a UC Master Gardener of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties in 2022. She is excited to share her knowledge on how to create healthy, bountiful vegetable gardens that will grow successfully in containers.

Lynne Trulio is a 2024 graduate of the UC Master Gardener program who, with other master gardeners, advocates for habitat gardening to support California’s native biodiversity. She is also chair of the Continuing Education committee for San Mateo/San Francisco UC Master Gardeners. She is a professor emeritus of environmental studies at San Jose State University and is a wildlife ecologist, primarily studying birds and mammals.

RSVP recommended, walk-ins welcome. Heavy rain cancels. Admission to the Garden is free for San Francisco residents, veterans, Museums for All/EBT participants, and Gardens members.

Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
