Villa Albertine and the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, in partnership with LitQuake 2024, invite you to a special event celebrating Atlas of Perfumed Botany by iconic perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena.
Ellena, a prominent figure in French perfumery and the creator of Les Jardins d’Hermès collection, is known for his ability to evoke deep sensory connections with nature. “Les Jardins” series captures the essence of gardens through evocative notes that mirror morning freshness, sunlight on petals, and lush greenery, creating an immersive experience that taps into personal memories. His Garden on the Nile was hailed by The New York Times as a “turning point for the perfume industry” and is celebrated for its unisex appeal.
The event will feature a conversation with Jean-Claude Ellena, alongside writers and botany enthusiasts Jane Marchant and John McMurtie. Guests will hear insights from Ellena on his experiences in the perfume industry, the sociogeographic mapping of fragrances, and the cultural significance of scent, fragrance, and perfume.
About Jean-Claude Ellena:
Jean-Claude Ellena is a distinguished French perfumer and author, whose career has left a lasting imprint on the fragrance world. Best known for serving as the in-house perfumer for Hermès from 2004 to 2016, Ellena crafted some of the brand’s most iconic scents, including Un Jardin sur le Nil. His career spans collaborations with prestigious brands such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Aqua di Parma, Bulgari, Sisley, Cartier, Frédéric Malle, The Different Company, and Le Couvent – Maison de Parfum.
