About the Program

Succulent plants are renowned for their ability to thrive in our Bay Area Mediterranean climate, thanks to their water-storing leaves and stems. They come in a stunning variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, making them a favorite among gardeners and decorators alike. Beyond their beauty, succulents also symbolize resilience and adaptability, qualities that have made them immensely popular in modern indoor and outdoor spaces. Come and learn some simple guidelines from UC Master Gardeners for growing and maintaining them in your containers or landscape.

About the Speakers

Janice Moody’s horticultural roots run deep—she grew up on a nursery that her family started in Half Moon Bay in the early 60’s. Although she majored in dietetics at UC Davis, her inner passion for gardening never waned and after wearing many hats over the years, she finally found her true calling in life when she became a UC Master Gardener in 2010 and eventually started Seascapes Succulent Nursery and Garden Design in 2016, located in Half Moon Bay. She calls herself a jack of many trades, but a master of only one—gardening! She feels so fortunate to be able to work outdoors, doing what she loves most, and sharing her gardening knowledge with others.

Jeff Harter has been packing plants into his 800 square feet of San Francisco soil for over a decade, starting in 2012 when he replaced his lawn with terraces and mulch. His participation in succulent and bromeliad societies has helped him fill all available patches of ground with his favorite succulents, such as gasteria, hawarthia, crassula, and aloe.

RSVP Required. Heavy rain cancels. Admission to the Garden is free for San Francisco residents, veterans, Museums for All/EBT participants, and Gardens members.

Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
